“Good communication turns complex work into something clients can trust.”

Ronan Dunne is an Audit Manager based in AAB’s Dublin office, working across a broad portfolio of clients in manufacturing, investment, hospitality, and leisure. His role centres on managing multiple audits simultaneously, working closely with partners while overseeing the delivery of work across different teams. With exposure to a wide range of industries and business sizes, Ronan brings both technical expertise and practical understanding to each assignment. Alongside his client work, he plays an active role in developing the team, supporting employee progression and ensuring quality standards are consistently met.

Building trust through consistency

“It’s a role that combines numbers, analytics, and relationship building. I think that’s why I enjoy it so much. I’ve worked with many of the same clients since joining the company in 2021. Over time you build a strong understanding of their business and how they operate. That understanding makes a real difference. Clients know what to expect, and I know what we need to ensure a smooth audit.

For me, it comes down to regular communication and being reliable. If you stay in touch, keep things clear and deliver consistently, the relationship will thrive.”

Everyone has to be on the same page

“One of the key challenges in audit is making sure clients understand what’s happening and why.

Not every client comes from a financial background, so part of the job is translating technical information into something clear and practical.

Timelines can also be a challenge, so agreeing expectations early and sticking to them is important. When both sides are clear from the outset, everything tends to run more smoothly.”

Being part of their growth

“One of the most satisfying parts of the job is seeing clients grow over time.

Because I’ve worked with some businesses for several years, you get to see their progress, how they overcome challenges and how they grow. Being part of that journey is rewarding.

It’s not just about completing the audit each year, it’s about understanding where they’re heading and supporting them along the way.”

Supporting the next generation

“Internally, a big part of the role is working with the trainees and team.

You see people join with very little experience and develop into strong, capable professionals over time. Being part of that progression is something I really enjoy.

I try to be approachable and make sure people feel comfortable asking questions. That’s how they learn, and it ultimately strengthens the whole team.”

Changing perceptions

“A common misconception is that auditors are difficult to deal with or overly rigid.

In reality, we’re there to work with clients, not against them. We understand that every business operates differently, and we try to be as flexible as possible while still meeting all the required standards.”

Looking ahead

“Technology is definitely an area I’m focusing on, particularly AI and how it can support the work we do.

There’s a lot of potential to improve efficiency in day-to-day tasks, and it’s important to understand how those tools can be used effectively within audit.

At the same time, the fundamentals don’t change. Strong relationships, clear communication and attention to detail will always be at the core of what we do.”
