Meet the Corporate Tax team
Owner-managed and family-owned businesses. Large corporates. International groups. Acquisitive and high-growth businesses.
Corporate Tax Compliance. Tax Advisory and Planning. Capital Allowances. Group Structuring and Reorganisations. Transactions and Tax Due Diligence. Business Acquisitions and Disposals.
Robert Barrie is a Corporate Tax Director based in AAB’s Glasgow office. He brings a considered and practical approach to technically complex and commercially sensitive situations.
Combining detailed technical analysis with commercial judgement, Robert provides straightforward advice that helps clients manage risk, evaluate their options and make informed decisions. He works closely with specialists across AAB and with clients’ other professional advisers to ensure that tax advice is aligned with their wider commercial, financial and legal objectives.
All sectors, with particular experience in Construction & Property. Industrial & Technology. Food & Drink. Leisure, Retail & Hospitality.
“Tax can be technically complex, but the advice we give must remain relevant, understandable and practical. Clients need to know what an issue means for their business, what choices are available and the implications of each option.
I enjoy working through difficult problems, identifying what really matters and turning detailed technical analysis into a practical recommendation that supports the client’s wider objectives.”
“Some of my most rewarding work involves supporting clients through acquisitions, disposals, reorganisations and other significant events. These projects often involve demanding timescales, complex technical issues and several different stakeholders.
My role is to identify the relevant tax risks and opportunities, explain their practical implications and help keep the process moving. It is particularly satisfying when our involvement helps a client make a well-informed decision or successfully complete an important transaction.”
“The strongest client relationships are those where there is open communication and a shared understanding of the business’s objectives. I encourage clients to involve me while their plans are still developing, so that we can explore the options, anticipate potential issues and shape the best way forward.
For me, the greatest compliment is being asked to contribute to a significant business decision, including where the discussion extends beyond tax. It demonstrates that the client values my judgement and regards me as part of their wider advisory team.”
“Tax issues rarely exist in isolation. A transaction, restructuring or growth plan can have wider accounting, legal, tax and commercial implications.
One of AAB’s greatest strengths is the breadth of expertise available across the organisation. I enjoy bringing the right people together and giving clients access to joined-up advice that considers the business, its shareholders and its wider stakeholders.”
“Technology and artificial intelligence present a significant opportunity to improve how professional services are delivered. Used effectively, they can enhance quality, make processes more efficient and give advisers more time to focus on judgement, problem-solving and client relationships.
I am particularly interested in how these tools can be applied responsibly within corporate tax compliance and advisory work. Technology should strengthen the service we provide while retaining the human insight and professional judgement that clients value.”
