“The best accountants are not just number-crunchers, they’re financial storytellers.”

Lyn Foley is Client Services Director at AAB, leading client service delivery across a diverse portfolio of businesses and organisations. Combining extensive accountancy experience with a passion for people, processes, and service excellence, Lyn works closely with both clients and colleagues to ensure businesses receive the support they need to make informed decisions and achieve their objectives. With experience spanning telecommunications, engineering, IT, education, charity, and not-for-profit sectors, Lyn combines technical expertise with strong leadership skills to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Helping Businesses and Teams Succeed

“My role is incredibly varied and combines client support with leadership responsibilities. While I continue to work closely with clients on management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning, a significant part of my role also involves supporting our people and ensuring we consistently deliver an outstanding service experience.

Every week involves working closely with clients to understand their objectives, reviewing financial information, supporting decision-making, and helping organisations plan for the future. Alongside this, I spend time supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge, improving processes, and ensuring our teams have the tools and support they need to deliver the highest standards of service.”

A CAREER BUILT ON VARIETY

“My route into accountancy was perhaps a little different from many people. Initially, I was drawn to the profession because it provided opportunities to travel and work in different locations. Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant opened those doors, but what kept me in the profession was discovering how rewarding it is to help businesses overcome challenges, improve performance, and achieve their goals.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a wide variety of organisations, from large telecommunications companies through to owner-managed businesses, schools, charities, and not-for-profit organisations. That breadth of experience allows me to understand the different challenges organisations face and tailor support accordingly.”

Making a Positive Impact

“One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is helping clients gain confidence in their financial information and use it to make better decisions. Financial reports should never simply be a collection of numbers. They should tell a story and provide business owners with the insight they need to move forward confidently.

Recently, I supported a client through the implementation of a new accounting system, helping them transition to more efficient processes and improve the quality of information available to management. The result was greater visibility, stronger reporting, and improved decision-making throughout the business.

Another particularly rewarding project involved supporting a not-for-profit organisation with grant funding requirements. By helping them prepare the financial information required, the organisation successfully secured significant funding that will allow them to continue delivering valuable services within their community.

Knowing that our support can directly contribute to the success and sustainability of an organisation is one of the most satisfying parts of my role.”

Commitment & Dedication

“Building strong relationships is central to everything I do. Whether working with clients or colleagues, trust, communication, and consistency are essential. I believe the best outcomes are achieved when people feel listened to, understood, and supported.

I take the time to understand each client’s goals, challenges, and priorities because every organisation is different. By understanding what success looks like for them, I can ensure the advice and support provided is genuinely valuable and relevant.

The greatest compliment I have received is hearing clients describe the support they receive as exceptional and telling me they genuinely enjoy working with me. For me, that reflects the importance of building relationships based on trust, professionalism, and a shared commitment to achieving positive outcomes.”

THE POWER OF COLLABORATION

“One of the things I value most about AAB is the collaborative culture. No individual has all the answers, and being surrounded by talented colleagues with different areas of expertise enables us to provide better support for our clients.

As a leader, I am passionate about creating an environment where people feel supported, encouraged, and able to develop. Strong teams deliver stronger client outcomes, and helping colleagues grow in confidence and capability is something I find incredibly rewarding.

I also believe that empathy plays an important role in client service. Behind every business challenge is a person trying to make the right decision, and taking the time to understand their perspective often makes all the difference.”

MORE THAN NUMBERS

“One of the biggest misconceptions about accountancy is that accountants spend their days simply producing numbers and reports. In reality, accountants play a vital role in helping businesses understand their performance, make informed decisions, and plan effectively for the future.

The profession continues to evolve rapidly, particularly through advances in technology and AI. We have already seen how cloud accounting has transformed access to real-time financial information, enabling businesses to become more proactive and agile.

Looking ahead, I am particularly interested in how AI and emerging technologies can further enhance both service delivery and financial insight. Used effectively, these tools have the potential to help businesses make even better decisions while allowing advisers to focus on providing higher-value strategic support.”
