Based at our AAB Edinburgh office, Client Relationship Support Lauren Stenhouse provides clients with financial planning support to suit their needs while ensuring their journey is smooth from start to finish.
Lauren brings to the role extensive experience in running a business along with her knowledge and understanding of finance. This enables her to help clients achieve their goals while building strong and trustworthy relationships which she finds rewarding.
With a practical approach to problem solving and attention to detail, Lauren enjoys going the extra mile for clients to ensure their needs are met, and is currently working towards her CII qualifications to grow her understanding within the industry.
“A typical week in my role involves supporting financial planners throughout the client journey and ensuring a seamless process. Much of my work takes place behind the scenes, acting as one of the “cogs in the machine” that keeps everything moving.
My responsibilities include client onboarding, obtaining information from providers, preparing for client meetings, processing contributions, withdrawals and transfers, maintaining client records, and communicating with clients at each stage.”
“I previously owned a business, and that experience gave me a real appreciation for the importance of managing your finances well and planning for the future. Running a business helped me understand how decisions made today can have a significant impact long term, whether that’s managing cash flow or taking advantage of tax-efficient opportunities.
It sparked my interest in financial planning and the positive difference it can make to people’s lives, which ultimately led me to pursue my current career path.
My experience has taught me the importance of being proactive, organised and approachable. I support clients by keeping them updated, answering questions, and helping guide them through what can often be a complex process.”
“I enjoy building trust and being a reliable point of contact, while working closely with advisers and providers to ensure things progress as smoothly as possible. My attention to detail and commitment to client service help create a positive experience for clients throughout their financial planning journey.
Running my own business taught me a lot about being adaptable and resilient. I quickly learned that plans can change, problems can arise, and it’s how you respond that matters. It helped me develop a solution-focused mindset and taught me the importance of being proactive when tackling challenges. Those are skills I use every day in my current role when supporting clients, advisers, and providers.
The most satisfying aspect of working with clients is building trust and knowing they can rely on me. Whether it’s helping someone through the onboarding process, resolving an issue with a provider, or keeping them updated on progress, I enjoy making things as straightforward and stress-free as possible. It’s rewarding to know that the support I provide behind the scenes contributes to a positive client experience.”
“I believe strong client relationships are built through being proactive and going the extra mile to achieve the best outcome whenever possible.
An example of a strong relationship I built was when a client required an urgent withdrawal, but the request was received after the platform’s processing cut-off, meaning the funds would not have reached them until the following day rather than by close of business that day. Although the difference was only 24 hours, I understood the importance of the funds being received as quickly as possible. Rather than simply advising the client of the delay, I contacted the platform directly, explained the circumstances, and asked whether anything could be done to help. As a result, they prioritised the request and ensured the client received their funds that day.
One non-negotiable for me when building client relationships is being reliable and responsive. I believe clients should feel confident that they can reach out with a question or concern and receive a timely response. By keeping clients informed, following through on commitments, and being someone they can rely on, trust develops naturally and strong relationships are built.
I would say my key strengths are being reliable, proactive, and organised. I enjoy building relationships with clients and supporting them throughout the financial planning process, ensuring they feel informed and supported at every stage. I am dependable and always willing to go the extra mile when needed.”
“A common misconception is that financial planning is complex and only relevant at certain stages of life. In reality, financial planning can benefit people at any age and helps provide clarity, structure and confidence when making important financial decisions.”
“One challenge in financial services is keeping up with an industry that is constantly evolving. Whether it’s regulatory changes or new technology, there is always something new to learn. I approach this by staying curious and making the most of learning opportunities within AAB. I enjoy developing my knowledge and adapting to change, as it helps me provide better support to both clients and colleagues.
What stands out most to me is how supportive and collaborative everyone is. From my first day, colleagues have been generous with their time and knowledge, always willing to help when needed. That culture of teamwork not only makes it a great place to work, but also helps us deliver the best possible service to our clients.”
“I’m currently working towards my CII qualifications, which are helping me build a broader understanding of financial planning, regulation, and the wider industry. I’m also enjoying entering the profession at a time when technology is becoming increasingly integrated across financial services.
The industry is evolving quickly, and I’m excited to be part of that change, particularly as new technology helps create more efficient processes and a smoother experience for everyone involved in the financial planning journey.”
