“GREAT AUDITS ARE BUILT ON STRONG RELATIONSHIPS, NOT JUST STRONG NUMBERS.”

Based in our Leeds office, Jack Mettrick is an Audit Assistant Manager who works with businesses across a wide range of sectors, helping them navigate the audit process with confidence while building trusted, long-term relationships.

Jack’s role centres on planning and delivering audits, reviewing financial information, supporting and developing team members, and acting as a key point of contact for clients throughout every stage of the audit process. Whether he’s resolving technical accounting queries, coordinating audit teams or ensuring projects stay on track, he combines technical expertise with a practical, approachable style that helps clients feel supported from start to finish.

BUILDING TRUSTED RELATIONSHIPS

“I always focus on getting to know the people I’ll be working with in the business before diving into the numbers.”

For Jack, successful audits begin with understanding the people behind the business. Taking time to learn about a client’s ambitions, challenges and experiences helps establish trust from the outset, creating an environment where conversations are open, collaborative and productive. He believes that when clients feel comfortable asking questions, it leads to stronger partnerships and enables AAB to provide wider support by connecting them with the right specialists across the business when required.

BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS THAT LAST

“The strongest client relationships are usually built over time through consistency, communication and trust.”

Rather than seeing an audit as a once-a-year exercise, Jack values developing long-term relationships with clients. By maintaining regular communication, staying responsive and understanding how businesses evolve each year, he has built partnerships where clients view AAB as trusted advisers rather than simply auditors. One of the highlights of each audit is reconnecting with familiar faces, catching up on both business developments and personal milestones, and using that deeper understanding to deliver an even better service year after year.

SEEING BUSINESSES SUCCEED

“It’s rewarding to see how different organisations develop over time.”

The variety of businesses Jack works with is one of the most satisfying aspects of his role. Whether clients are launching new products, expanding into new markets or introducing new strategies, he enjoys seeing their progress and knowing that the audit process plays a small part in supporting their journey. Being able to follow businesses as they grow, while building lasting relationships with the people behind them, is what makes the role especially fulfilling.

LEARNING THROUGH LEADERSHIP

“Leadership isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about being dependable, supporting those around you and setting a positive example.”

One of the biggest milestones in Jack’s career came when he led his own audit team for the first time. Becoming the main point of contact for both clients and colleagues initially felt daunting, but it reinforced an important lesson: effective leadership is built on reliability, collaboration and knowing where to find the right answers. That experience continues to shape how he supports both his team and his clients today, ensuring everyone has the guidance they need to succeed.

MAKING AUDIT MORE THAN NUMBERS

“In reality, audit is a people-focused profession.”

Jack is passionate about challenging the misconception that audit is simply about ticking boxes. He believes great audit work depends on understanding how businesses operate, asking the right questions and exercising professional judgement—not just analysing financial statements. As the profession continues to evolve through AI, advanced data analytics and technologies such as Inflo, he is excited by the opportunity to improve audit quality, automate routine tasks and spend even more time delivering valuable insight and building strong client relationships.
