Dominic is a Corporate Lawyer at AAB, specialising in mergers and acquisitions and wider corporate transactional work. Advising businesses across a diverse range of sectors, Dominic combines legal expertise with strong commercial understanding to help clients navigate complex and fast-paced transactions with confidence. Known for his pragmatic and solutions-focused approach, Dominic works closely with clients throughout every stage of the deal process, ensuring transactions progress efficiently while maintaining a clear focus on achieving the best commercial outcome.
“Law was always a career path that felt natural to me, largely because many of my family members were also lawyers. From a young age, it was something I knew I wanted to pursue, and over time I developed a particular interest in the commercial and transactional side of the profession. I enjoy the combination of technical legal work and broader commercial strategy that corporate transactions involve.
My background has given me a strong understanding of both legal and wider commercial considerations, which allows me to advise clients not only on the technical legal aspects of a deal, but also on how decisions align with their broader business objectives. Much of my week is spent speaking with clients about transaction documents, negotiating deal terms, drafting agreements, and managing ongoing discussions to ensure deals continue progressing efficiently.”
“One of the most satisfying aspects of my role is being able to guide clients through an entire M&A transaction from the initial conversation right through to completion. Transactions can often feel overwhelming for clients, particularly when there are tight deadlines or challenging negotiations involved, so being able to provide clarity and help move matters forward efficiently is incredibly rewarding.
A recent example involved a client who had a very specific deadline for completing their transaction. Working closely with all parties involved, we successfully managed to complete the deal within four weeks of signing the heads of terms. Delivering outcomes like that under pressure requires strong communication, organisation, and collaboration across the wider advisory team.”
“One of the biggest advantages of working within the wider AAB is the ability to provide clients with fully integrated support throughout a transaction. Clients often require legal, financial, and tax advice simultaneously, and because we work closely as one team, we are able to deliver advice in a far more joined-up and efficient way.”
“Building trusted relationships with clients is a huge part of my role. Transactions are often high-pressure environments where clients are making significant commercial decisions, so responsiveness and communication are extremely important. I always focus on understanding not only the client’s commercial objectives, but also building strong personal rapport, as you often work very closely with clients throughout the course of a deal.
I believe clients value pragmatic advice and having someone who remains calm and solutions-focused when challenges arise. One of the greatest compliments I’ve received from a client was being told that I remained pragmatic and focused on finding solutions even during difficult negotiations, which helped keep the transaction moving forward efficiently under pressure.”
“Corporate transactions can often involve competing deadlines, multiple stakeholders, and high-pressure negotiations happening simultaneously. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned throughout my career is the importance of adaptability, organisation, and maintaining momentum across multiple projects at once. You need to be able to quickly switch between transactions while ensuring every client continues to feel supported and prioritised.
I pride myself on delivering common-sense, pragmatic advice while remaining approachable and collaborative throughout the process. Building strong relationships with both clients and professional advisers is incredibly important in ensuring transactions progress smoothly and challenges can be resolved efficiently.”
“One of the biggest challenges within corporate transactional work is balancing the need to maintain momentum on deals while also ensuring clients’ interests remain fully protected. Transactions often move at a rapid pace, with multiple complex matters progressing at the same time, so organisation and commercial awareness are essential.
A common misconception about lawyers is that they are only there to identify problems. In reality, good lawyers are also focused on finding practical solutions, overcoming obstacles, and helping transactions move forward as efficiently as possible.”
“The profession is also continuing to evolve, particularly with the emergence of AI and new technologies that can improve efficiency within transactional work. I’m particularly interested in exploring how AI platforms can support deal processes and help streamline certain aspects of transactional legal work while maintaining the high standards clients expect.”
