Cellan Richards is a Corporate Finance Senior Manager at AAB, supporting business owners and management teams through acquisitions, disposals, refinancing projects, and succession planning initiatives. Combining his background as a Chartered Accountant with experience gained in restructuring and transactional advisory, Cellan works closely with clients to provide commercially focused guidance throughout the deal process. Known for his calm and measured approach, he helps businesses navigate change confidently while ensuring decisions remain aligned with their long-term objectives.
“I’ve always been interested in deal advisory and working alongside management teams who are passionate about their businesses. Whether supporting growth ambitions, preparing for succession, or helping owners explore strategic options, I enjoy being involved in projects that have a meaningful impact on both the business and the people behind it.
As a Chartered Accountant with a background in restructuring and transactions, I’ve had the opportunity to work on projects of varying sizes across Wales, the South West, and beyond. This experience has given me a broad understanding of the challenges businesses face at different stages of their lifecycle and the importance of delivering practical advice that reflects each client’s unique circumstances.
My role involves working with clients across a range of industries, advising management teams and business owners on transactions and strategic options, preparing financial analysis and modelling, and coordinating with lawyers, funders, and other advisers throughout a deal process. I also support clients through acquisitions, disposals, refinancing exercises, and succession planning projects, helping them navigate complex decisions and achieve successful outcomes.”
“One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is helping clients achieve positive outcomes while preserving the legacy they have worked hard to build. Many business owners have invested years, and often decades, into creating successful businesses, so being able to support them through important transactions and transitions is a responsibility I take seriously.
Whether it’s helping a business owner prepare for succession, supporting a company through a strategic acquisition, or advising on refinancing options, I enjoy seeing clients achieve their objectives and move forward with confidence. Building strong relationships throughout that journey is equally rewarding, particularly when you know the advice and support provided has made a genuine difference.”
“A major advantage of being part of AAB is the ability to draw upon expertise from across the wider organisation. Transactions often involve legal, financial, tax, and commercial considerations, and having access to specialists across multiple disciplines ensures clients receive comprehensive advice that supports the best possible outcome.”
“I believe strong client relationships are built through listening first. Every business is different, and every client has their own objectives, concerns, and priorities. Understanding those needs before offering advice is essential to delivering support that is genuinely valuable and relevant.
Throughout my career, I’ve developed many successful client relationships by simply being myself and taking the time to understand what clients are looking to achieve. Rather than approaching meetings with a fixed idea of the outcome, I prefer to remain open-minded and work collaboratively to identify the best route forward.
One of the greatest compliments I’ve received from clients is recognition of my ability to remain calm under pressure. Transactions can often involve tight deadlines, changing circumstances, and difficult decisions, so being able to provide reassurance and maintain perspective is an important part of helping clients navigate the process successfully.”
“One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned throughout my career is that every transaction is different and there is rarely a perfect solution. While experience and technical knowledge are important, flexibility and adaptability are often just as critical. Circumstances can change quickly during a transaction, and the ability to adjust your approach while keeping the client’s objectives at the forefront is essential.
This understanding has shaped the way I work today. Rather than relying on a single solution or formula, I focus on understanding the wider context of each situation and tailoring advice accordingly. Taking a flexible, client-focused approach helps ensure businesses receive advice that is practical, relevant, and aligned with their long-term goals.”
“One of the biggest challenges within corporate finance is balancing the many different factors that influence a transaction. Financial considerations are important, but so too are the personal, commercial, and strategic objectives that sit behind a deal. Successfully managing those competing priorities requires strong communication, careful planning, and the ability to remain calm when circumstances change.”
“Looking ahead, I’m keen to continue developing my sector knowledge across a wide range of industries. Every sector has its own challenges, opportunities, and commercial drivers, and building a deeper understanding of these nuances enables me to provide even more valuable advice to clients.
Ultimately, what I enjoy most about corporate finance is helping clients navigate important moments in their business journey. Whether supporting growth, succession, or strategic change, being part of that process and helping clients achieve successful outcomes is what makes the role so rewarding.”
