Stuart Clark is a Senior Manager within our Business Advisory team. Based in our Aberdeen office, Stuart helps a number of different businesses and partnerships across various sectors from Construction & Property to Technology. Stuart also facilitates staff and team development.
“An ideal relationship with a client is one where they view me as a member of their own team, sharing thoughts, ideas, and problems with me. This allows me to provide them with what they expect – professional, honest advice, and awesome service.”
“The most satisfying aspects of working with clients is seeing where my input has helped them achieve their goals. In terms of working with colleagues, the most satisfying thing is seeing members of the team grow and develop, knowing that I’ve helped them along the way.”
“I never accept “that’s how we’ve always done it” as a good enough answer. I am always looking at how processes can be improved for clients.”
“Sometimes there’s no beating face-to-face, but it can make the best use of everyone’s time to work remotely for a client, or to jump on a quick Teams call to get the job done and keep things moving. It also gives an opportunity to build stronger relationships, no matter where you are based.”
“One of the greatest tools also poses one of the greatest challenges – software. It can create a false impression that if a system is user-friendly, then it’s all you need. The truth is, a computer can only do so much – it doesn’t understand your business, your goals and your ambitions in the way that a trusted advisor does. What it does do is gives us the tools to collaborate with our clients, to help us understand and analyse their business data and use that analysis, along with our knowledge and relationship, to provide bespoke insights and advice.”
“As the group grows, our specialisms are either increasing or being fine-tuned, and it’s exciting to see what this means for the services we’re able to offer clients, but also for the internal opportunities for development across all grades in the AAB team.”
“At AAB, no one person is expected to, or claims to, know it all – we work together across the group making sure the right people are in the right place at the right time, so that specialisms are tapped into and the advice and assistance we can offer is second to none.”
“One of the greatest strengths I bring to AAB is that I’m a problem solver – I’m able to stand back and see where pieces aren’t quite fitting together. This allows me to quickly fix what clearly isn’t working, but also means I’m constantly looking below the surface for where less obvious improvements can be made.”
“The best compliment I receive from clients is the simple “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Something I dislike about my area of work is that there are still accountants who base their model on speaking to clients once a year, taking months to turn around basic compliance, and giving no advice along the way – they give us all a bad name.”
