“TAX DOESN’T HAVE TO BE TAXING.”

Shane is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) Director within the Tax team with overall responsibility for innovation taxes. Shane enjoys the challenge of helping clients navigate the complex world of tax. To use a common phrase ‘tax doesn’t have to be taxing’. However, the everchanging tax landscape dictates otherwise. The satisfaction comes in helping clients from start to finish on that journey.

To advise clients, Shane knows that we need to know as much about them as possible. Their ambitions, business goals and personal circumstances. They need to trust us and we need to build rapport and credibility with them for this to be achieved.

PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE

“One of my greatest strengths is my people skills.  I am very approachable and find it easy to make a connection with people.  From working in the hospitality industry as a teenager to dealing with clients in the corporate boardroom, people are just people, and they need to feel that they can relate to you. I believe I have that. I take great pleasure in working as part of a highly skilled and dedicated team to deliver solutions to the numerous issues our clients face in running their businesses and I enjoy seeing colleagues develop as individuals and enhance their skillset to be able to progress in their career. Our team are the link between our clients and the services we provide, and we need them to be fully engaged and bought in to the firm to be able to deliver the best service possible.”

MAXIMISING POTENTIAL

“Keeping up to date with the constant changes in legislation has to be one of the biggest challenges we face within tax.  The increased scrutiny to not only stay within the law but to be acting within the spirit of the law places additional burden on us as tax practitioners to protect our and our client’s reputation.  We must maintain a focus on our continuing professional development to ensure this is possible. The great thing about being an AAB Group company is the ability we have to progress and grow. There are endless opportunities out there and we need to be forward thinking to be able to identify them, and agile enough to be able to move fast enough to maximise the potential.”

“MY MATE WAS TELLING ME HE PAYS NO TAX”

“You always hear about those conversations that start with “my mate was telling me down the pub that he pays no tax because of (insert ridiculous reason), why can’t I do that?”

Who tells the truth in the pub for a starter? Tax is definitely not a ‘one size fits all’ which is what makes it such a challenging and rewarding profession to be in.”
