“My aim is to get the right deal done, for the right reasons”

Paul Turner is a Corporate Finance Partner based in our Edinburgh office. With over 15 years of experience in advising on company sales, acquisitions, buy-outs, and fundraising. He works closely with business owners, corporates, investors, and lenders to deliver strategic outcomes through complex transactions.

Paul takes a hands-on approach, leading deal discussions and negotiations, supported by a highly capable team. His role is dynamic, balancing deal execution with relationship building across the market to generate new opportunities. Clients value his commercial insight, clear communication, and calm focus under pressure, especially when navigating high-stakes decisions.

Completing the right deals, the right way

“My aim isn’t just to get the deal completed – I want to make sure that it’s the right deal completed the right way. Whether it’s selling a business or buying one, these are significant moments for our clients. There’s a lot on the line, and that’s exactly where I thrive. I enjoy getting stuck into complex challenges, working through the details, and delivering outcomes that genuinely matter.

It’s a journey I’m deeply invested in, one that often takes months of commitment. By the time we cross the finish line, we’ve built strong relationships, shared in the highs, overcome challenges, and helped people take the next big step with confidence.

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a deal complete and knowing it’s made a real difference. On the sell side, that could mean helping a client secure a life-changing sum for something they’ve built from the ground up. On the buy side, it might mean facilitating an acquisition that unlocks serious growth for the future. Either way, the sense of achievement is huge for my clients and for me. It’s not just about ticking the box on a transaction. I aim to deliver results that mean something to the people behind the business.”

Trust starts with listening

“A big part of what I do is about relationships, not just the numbers. From the first meeting, I’m focused on building trust by listening carefully and asking the right questions. Clients often come to us at critical points in their business or personal lives. They need more than technical advice- they need someone who understands where they’re coming from and where they want to go. Someone that will help them ensure whatever they’ve set out to achieve becomes reality.

That ability to build rapport quickly helps lay the foundation for honest, productive conversations. It also means I can tailor my advice to what matters to each client, not just what the numbers say on paper.”

Clear heads deliver better outcomes

“Corporate finance isn’t always smooth sailing. Negotiations can get tense, timelines shift, and unexpected issues crop up. But staying calm under pressure is where I bring real value. I help clients stay focused on the bigger picture, even when things get challenging.

I bring a cool head, clear communication, and commercial judgement to every deal. My role is to cut through the noise, protect my client’s interests, and make sure nothing is overlooked. It’s about keeping momentum, solving problems fast, and staying professional, no matter how intense the situation gets. That’s something that I pride myself on.”

Details that deliver

“Deals are built on detail, and it’s my job to make sure nothing is missed. I’m meticulous when it comes to understanding the numbers, but I never lose sight of the commercial reality behind them. That balance is crucial. It allows me to spot risks early, highlight value others might miss, and steer clients toward decisions that are not only sound but smart.

That level of insight often translates into very real value. Whether that’s negotiating a better deal, structuring things in a more tax-efficient way, or simply helping a client avoid costly missteps, it all comes back to diligence and precision.”

A trusted advisor through the process

“Selling a business can be an emotional rollercoaster. I’ve worked with many founders and shareholders who’ve built something from scratch, invested years of their lives, and are now preparing to hand it over. It’s a huge decision that’s often very personal.

That’s why I place such importance on empathy and communication. My clients know they can pick up the phone at any point. They know I’ll be honest, clear, and always in their corner. I’m not just here for the deal- I’m here to support them when they need me.”
