Meet the Business Advisory team
Family Businesses. Owner Managed Businesses. Subsidiaries of Overseas Companies.
Business Advisory Service. Statutory Annual Compliance. Monthly and Quarterly Reporting. Outsourced Accounting Services.
Across all Sectors.
Mairi Gordon is a Senior Manager within our Business Advisory team. Based in Aberdeen, she provides a complete accountancy service to her clients, from statutory annual compliance and monthly or quarterly reporting, right down to bookkeeping and VAT returns.
Friendly and approachable, Mairi enjoys being at the end of the phone to support her clients – getting to know them as individuals as well as a business. And she likes the fact that she has the support of colleagues when needed. If clients have a question about corporate tax or VAT, there’s always a team at AAB who can help – and they always deliver.
“I think it’s so important to get to know my clients and build great relationships with them – that’s how you really get to understand them and their requirements. I also think it’s good to meet the clients you are working with. Ideally that’s face-to-face, but Teams can work very well too. I’ve known some of my clients for years and it’s great when you can strike up a personal connection as well as a business one. I get to know about their pets, their hobbies and their favourite holiday destinations! It makes my job so much more enjoyable, and you build up trust that way too.”
“I like working in the office but being able to use Teams has been a revelation really. I now get to see clients who are based overseas and who I would rarely have had the opportunity to meet before – like one of my clients who’s based in Hong Kong. But I do like the mix, and usually leave it up to my clients to decide how they would rather meet. Our office is open if you want to come in, but if you’d rather meet remotely, that’s fine too.”
“My role involves working with a large portfolio of clients and every one of them is different. This makes for a very varied role with every day being different. It’s certainly not boring in my job! It also means I’m dealing with lots of different colleagues across many different teams. Managing all of that, and all of their different deadlines can be challenging, but that’s all part of the job for me. It’s what I thrive on. And at the end of the day, if I didn’t thoroughly enjoy it, I wouldn’t still be here more than twenty years later!”
“I’m a loyal person who’s hardworking, flexible and reliable. I really enjoy supporting new members of our team to integrate and develop in their new roles and it’s fantastic to see them develop as their experience grows.
People often say I’m friendly and approachable. And I think that is just my style of working. I know I like to be managed by people who are kind and fair – that’s what I respond to best and it’s how I like to treat others.”
