HOW I HELP

ESG & sustainability. Consultancy. Compliance.

“PURPOSE DRIVEN CONSULTING THAT EMPOWERS REAL CHANGE FOR THEIR BUSINESS AND THE PLANET.”

Based in our Edinburgh office, Louise Neilson is a highly skilled Net Zero Assistant Manager who helps organisations transform sustainability ambitions into actionable, credible strategies. With consultancy experience stretching over energy, carbon strategy, and academic expertise in climate governance and risk, she specialises in making complex technical requirements practical and accessible.

Louise balances internal ESG initiatives with client-facing consultancy, supporting everything from greenhouse gas accounting to materiality assessments. Her passion for nature and determination to address climate challenges inspired her to pursue this career path, and she thrives on enabling businesses to create meaningful impact for both people and the planet.

COLLABORATION THAT CREATES CONFIDENCE

“I believe sustainability strategies only succeed when they’re built on strong human relationships. For me, it’s a non-negotiable to understand what motivates the individuals I’m working with, not just the organisation as a whole. By listening carefully and investing time at the start, I create a foundation of trust that makes our collaboration more meaningful.”

BUILDING TRUST THROUGH TEAMWORK

“Supporting a business through uncertainty showed me how powerful trust can be. For example, a client that I recently supported was struggling with fragmented data and uncertainty about requirements. Together, we broke things down step by step, closed the gaps, and kept the communication open throughout. What started as a daunting process became a shared journey, and the client later told me I had made navigating corporate net-zero commitments both simple and transparent. Those are the moments I value most, when trust and teamwork lead to real progress.”

STRENGTHS THAT SUPPORT ACTION

“My key strength lies in taking complex technical or regulatory requirements and translating them into clear, practical steps. Sustainability can feel overwhelming, but I’m passionate about breaking it down so clients feel supported and empowered.

Alongside my consultancy experience, I bring strong academic grounding with a Master’s in Carbon Management, professional membership with ISEP and certifications from the Energy Institute. Just as important, though, is my personable and collaborative style. I build trust quickly and enjoy working closely with clients at every level. It’s this combination of technical expertise and open communication that helps clients not only navigate challenges but also see new opportunities where they once saw obstacles.”

LESSONS THAT SHAPE MY APPROACH

“Earlier in my career, I faced imposter syndrome, particularly in high-level client meetings. At the time, it felt like a setback, but it became one of my most valuable lessons. I learned to reframe it as a sign that I was growing in my ability to communicate clearly and prepare thoroughly. This experience has made me more empathetic with clients who feel overwhelmed by ESG requirements. I know what it’s like to feel this, and I use that understanding to guide clients through the process with clarity and reassurance. Challenges like this have shaped not just my skills, but the way I connect with clients.”

TURNING AMBITION INTO ACTION

“One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing the ‘click’ moment when something complex suddenly makes sense for a client. I’ve supported businesses across sectors, from corporates in the automotive industry to SMEs in professional services, helping them shift from ambition to action.

For example, by combining greenhouse gas accounting with scenario modelling and reduction plans, I’ve helped clients move beyond compliance to embed ESG as part of their long-term strategy. What drives me is not just producing reports, but seeing businesses embed sustainable practices that create value for years to come.”

PROUD TO BE PART OF AAB

“What drew me to AAB was the organisation’s commitment to ESG as more than a service; it’s embedded in the way the business operates. That alignment makes work feel purposeful. I’m not just advising clients; I’m part of a team that’s striving to apply the same principles internally.

Being surrounded by colleagues who share the same vision for responsible business is motivating, and it ensures that the advice we provide is grounded, credible and authentic.”

EVOLVING WITH ESG

“The ESG landscape is evolving rapidly, and I’m eager to grow with it. I’m excited to expand into double materiality, biodiversity and social impact. I’m also interested in exploring how digital tools can improve data collection and make ESG insights more accessible and powerful for clients. For me, professional growth is not just about keeping pace with change but staying ahead of it so I can continue giving clients confidence in their sustainability journeys.”
