Meet the Corporate Tax team
Large Corporates. International businesses. SMEs. Family businesses.
Corporate tax advisory. Tax compliance. International tax.
All sectors, with a focus on family businesses.
Based in our Glasgow office, Lewis Handley is an Assistant Manager in our Corporate Tax team. He manages a diverse tax compliance portfolio and works closely with clients across all sectors to help them optimise their tax position. With specialist experience in R&D and capital allowances, he focuses on reducing liabilities and maximising available reliefs.
Beyond client work, Lewis is also part of AABs International’s large corporate team, expanding his expertise in cross-border tax while supporting the development of junior colleagues.
“For me, tax is never just about numbers on a page; it’s about people. I believe in building long-term relationships with clients, which is why I always prioritise face-to-face meetings when possible. A quick call to work through a query is far more effective than endless emails, and I find clients really appreciate that personal approach.”
“The most satisfying part of my role is when we can secure repayments or uncover reliefs a client didn’t know they were entitled to. That moment of telling them we’ve put money back into their business never gets old – it’s a tangible reminder of the value of having the right advisor on your side.”
“My top strengths that I bring to AAB are combining technical knowledge with practical application. Whether it’s navigating complex legislation, identifying overlooked reliefs or collaborating with specialist teams, I enjoy solving the puzzle that tax sometimes presents.
Having achieved my qualifications in Chartered Accountant (ICAS) and Chartered Tax Advisor (CIOT), I’m able to take a broad view, combining detailed technical understanding with wider business insight. That rounded perspective allows me to offer advice that’s not only accurate but also aligned with a client’s bigger picture goals.”
“One of the hardest challenges I have faced has been balancing client work with professional studies. However, the support I received at AAB was invaluable in getting me through that period, and it taught me the importance of resilience and balance.
In the profession itself, the real challenge is the constantly shifting landscape. New rules, changing reliefs, and evolving case law mean tax is never static. At AAB, we stay on top of this by sharing updates and insights across the team, ensuring our clients always benefit from the latest thinking.”
“I’m particularly excited about how technology is reshaping the way we deliver tax advice. From AI tools that streamline compliance to systems that highlight new opportunities for saving, the potential is huge. Exploring how these advances can enhance efficiency and accuracy is a big focus for me, and I see technology as a way of giving clients more value in less time.”
“A clear demonstration of how we don’t just deliver on expectations but actively look for opportunities to add value came when a large corporate group approached us with a tight deadline to file multiple corporation tax returns. We not only met the deadline but also identified additional tax savings of around £100,000 during the process. Going beyond the original scope made a real difference for the client and reinforced why I believe the best tax advice is always proactive.”
“What I love most about AAB is the culture of support and collaboration. We share knowledge openly, celebrate each other’s wins, and work together to achieve the best outcomes for clients. It’s a place where you feel encouraged to grow, and that energy translates directly into the quality of work we do.
Tax may sound boring to others but the impact we can make for clients is anything but boring. Saving money and unlocking opportunities is what keeps me motivated, and it’s why I enjoy coming to work every day.”
“I’m passionate about helping clients achieve real results and seeing the difference our advice can make. Whether it’s identifying a previously overlooked relief, navigating a complex deadline or exploring new opportunities, my focus is always on creating value for clients and supporting their long-term success.”
