“I WANT TO CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE & DEVELOP MY SKILLS AS A TAX ADVISOR; I WILL ALWAYS STRIVE TO PRODUCE THE BEST PIECE OF WORK THAT I CAN.”

Lauren McMahon is a Corporate Tax Assistant Manager based in both AAB’s Dungannon and Newry offices. She helps companies of all sizes and types, as well as individuals, to be compliant with their corporate tax and private client responsibilities. She works to identify opportunities within tax planning, and ensures the timely submission of tax returns, always making sure that payment dates are met.

UNDERSTANDING CLIENTS’ NEEDS

“The key thing underpinning the ideal relationship with clients is open communication. It’s really important to understand the clients wants and needs, and build a good relationship with the client so they feel comfortable that they can come to you with any problems they may have.”

HIGH EXPECTATIONS

“Clients rightfully expect a lot from us. This includes: quality and timely service, professionalism, responsiveness, accurate and credible advice tailored to their specific needs, to provide solutions to their problems, and attention to detail!”

PROVIDING SOLUTIONS & LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER

“For me, the most satisfying aspect of working with clients is helping them by providing solutions to problems is always rewarding, especially when a client is appreciative of the service you have provided.

When it comes to working with colleagues, I really enjoy learning new things from other colleagues. Seeing how they have applied things in practice, especially new legislation. Learning new and different ways of doing things. The wider AAB team includes individuals with varying ranges of skills and expertise, it is a real comfort to know that you have so many people to turn to if you were faced with an issue you had never come across before.”

CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT

“I want to continuously improve and develop my skills as a tax advisor, I will always strive to produce the best piece of work that I can.”

MAKING PROCESSES MORE EFFICIENT

“Technology has revolutionized the way we work and has mostly made our processes more efficient. It is not always possible for clients to have face to face meetings, so technology enables us to set up quick virtual meetings which allow us to talk to the client face to face (albeit virtually) rather than communicate over emails – allowing for a more personal touch.”

EVER-CHANGING LANDSCAPE

“The greatest challenge in my specialist area is probably the frequently changing legislation. Tax legislation is complex and everchanging, every day is a learning day and it’s so important to keep up with these changes through research and CPD.”

“I have recently joined AAB so I am looking forward to getting to know my clients better and getting a full understanding of their businesses. As the team continues to grow its interesting to learn from new people and to have more and more collaboration across the wider team.”

COLLABORATION IS KEY

“One of the AAB Group values is ‘Collaboration is our superpower’ and I think this really shines through. The Corporate Tax team work really well together; there is always someone to go to if you ever need help or to talk something through. Especially now with the growing AAB network there are more and more specialists and experts to reach out to for technical help.”

DEDICATED & HARDWORKING

“The greatest strengths I bring to AAB Group are probably that I am dedicated and hardworking, and always will strive to go beyond the clients’ expectations. I am passionate about improving and building on my tax knowledge and skills and am always eager to learn more through research, training courses etc.”

APPRECIATION

“I find it really rewarding when a client is appreciative of the work you have done for them. It is nice to see that what we do really does make a difference to people and can really help them.”

THE COMPLEXITY OF TAX

“It can be challenging when people don’t appreciate how complex tax can be and when people expect an off the shelf solution without considering that tax legislation is complex and there is no ‘one size fits all’. It takes time to provide valuable and tailored advice.”
