“TIMELY SERVICE RIGHT FROM PLANNING THROUGH TO COMPLETION.”

Based in our Stirling office, Jackie Crombie is a Senior Manager in the Audit department and manages a varied portfolio of audit clients. Jackie’s main responsibility is overseeing audits from planning through to completion, reviewing files and ensuring audits are completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales.

Part of her role involves management of the department, and this includes line management, carrying out staff appraisals and also being part of the management team maintaining the job planner.

Jackie also provides bookkeeping training to the new trainees in the audit and corporate tax departments and is the ICAS ATO.

Achieving goals together

“For me, an ideal client relationship would be one where we are both on the same page and they are on board in terms of meeting timescales by providing information on a timely basis.

I aim to provide a high quality, bespoke and timely service right from planning through to completion. I believe good communication is the foundation of a strong trusting relationship. I try to give clients regular updates of the status of the job and flag up any issues as they arise in order to meet deadlines in terms of their own reporting requirements as well as statutory deadlines.”

No two days are the same

“There are several aspects of my job that bring me great satisfaction. One being that no two days are the same – there is always a new challenge and new things to learn. Another aspect is building relationships with clients that I have dealt with for a number of years, and knowing that I have provided them with a high-quality service which is appreciated. Finally, I am a team player and enjoy collaborating with colleagues in different departments and being able to utilise the vast array of expertise within the audit department. I also find great satisfaction in seeing trainees progressing and developing.”

Striking the balance

“Technology advancements are changing the way we work and it’s something to be embraced. Virtual meetings can have advantages in terms of saving travelling time especially if the client is further afield or abroad and a number of individuals are involved. However, in terms of auditing it is beneficial to be on site with clients as it helps to keep the job moving and clients can deal with any queries there and then. A more ‘hands-on’ approach also helps to build stronger relationships with clients.”

Leading by example

“People make the firm what it is and if there is a good strong team this will allow staff to develop and achieve their full potential. Seeing junior members of staff grow and develop is a very rewarding part of my job, and as a manager I feel it is my responsibility to be a role model and I treat staff the same as I would expect to be treated. I am approachable and always encourage staff to come and speak to me if they have any concerns or issues.”

Exciting opportunities

“Joining AAB, I am looking forward to the opportunities to be involved in different sectors and a wider range of clients; working with new colleagues; and having additional specialists to call on. AAB is growing rapidly and continuing to expand the expertise within the group which I believe will lead to exciting new opportunities for both staff and clients.”
