Meet the Corporate Finance team
Any size of company.
Project Management of all corporate finance transactions with a focus on originating opportunities.
All Sectors.
Callum Gray is our Corporate Finance Partner. Although he’s based in Aberdeen, you’ll often find him travelling the length and breadth of the UK. He works with clients of all shapes and sizes, that span just about every sector.
In his role, Callum leads and project manages all nature of transactions. Anything from mergers and acquisitions or fundraising, right through to transaction support – and everything in between.
Callum also heads up our specialist deal origination offering, seeking to initiate opportunities for shareholders wishing to recognise their investment or merging with another, or acquisitive entities looking to achieve strategic objectives through M&A. He will work to understand their needs, wants and strategy, then find a way to make it happen.
“When I work with clients, I always try to achieve three levels of understanding. First, having a sense of how the business works. If I can do that, then the numbers will follow – and once I have the numbers, this puts the objectives into perspective. Second, it is fundamental to know they who the key people and characters are within the business. What’s the culture of the company? What makes it work? Who’s fundamental to the running of it? And finally, build a repour and dialogue with the person who’s providing the information. Discover what parameters they’re working to. Help them understand why certain questions are being asked. It builds trust – in the knowledge that I’m focused on achieving the best outcome.”
“At AAB, knowing we are in a competitive environment encourages us to do better. We don’t take anything for granted as you are only as good as your next deal.
I’m proud that we complete more than our fair share of transactions which demonstrates our ability to successfully complete all types of deals across many sectors. For almost two decades, we’ve done more deals by accountants than anyone else in Scotland. And I look forward to that continuing.”
“I’m not really a person that likes to talk about myself. I’d rather go and do things and then let the actions speak for themselves. But I do take a lot of pride in my work and bring a dynamic approach to what I do.
I suppose to a certain extent, my projects are quite personal to me, and I’m not in the habit of letting people down. Sure, business is business. Not everything will happen – it definitely won’t happen the way you expect it to. But if I say I’m going to do something, I’ll do everything I can to make sure it happens.”
“I truly believe there’s nothing better or more satisfying than saying you’re going to do something, and it comes to pass. And I always try to exceed that in some shape or form. It comes back to adding value whilst my client know I am seeking to exceed their objectives.
There’s no doubt in my mind that AAB know how to do these deals. We’ve got an incredible team and I have every confidence in our ability. And I think as we continue to grow, we can make the most of the solid foundations we have built and take our expertise and expand our network into even more sectors and locations.”
