Meet the Corporate Tax team
Large corporates. SMEs. Family businesses.
Tax compliance and advisory. Due diligence. Employee share reporting.
Becky Weir is a Corporate Tax Assistant Manager based in our Edinburgh office, working with clients across a range of industries. From family-owned businesses to global groups, Becky helps them meet their tax compliance requirements while also providing advice that allows them to make confident, informed decisions. She is known for her ability to simplify technical points and translate complex tax legislation into straightforward, practical guidance.
“Having strong client relationships matters to me. I always take the time to understand the people I’m working with, whether that’s by learning about their business journey, their industry, or their goals for the future. Sometimes clients prefer to keep the focus purely on the technical side, but I believe investing that little bit of extra time to connect personally builds stronger, more trusted relationships in the long run.
Over the years, I’ve built many lasting client relationships simply by being genuinely interested in their businesses and the people behind them. Getting to know different directors, finance teams, and business owners is one of the most enjoyable aspects of my work.”
“No two weeks in my role look the same. One day I’ll be supporting a small family-run business with its annual tax submission, and the next I’ll be working with a large international group that has overseas reporting requirements. I also work within the Entrepreneurial Transaction Taxes Team, where I support clients with tax due diligence for transactions and employee share reporting. The variety of work means I get to see tax in many different contexts and support clients with both compliance and advisory needs.”
“A big part of my role is translating complex technical issues into practical advice. I know that business leaders and directors are highly skilled in what they do, but tax legislation can be daunting and sometimes overwhelming. By breaking things down into clear explanations, I make sure my clients can understand their position, weigh up their options, and make well-informed decisions.
For me, it’s about ensuring that clients feel confident rather than confused by the technicalities.”
“What stands out to me at AAB is the variety of clients I get to work with, and the growth of the team since I first joined has only enhanced that. Being able to learn from colleagues and collaborate on projects across sectors is not only rewarding, but it also ensures clients benefit from the breadth of expertise.
I’m also part of the team that supports new graduates as they join the department. I remember how daunting it felt starting out in my career, so being able to help new team members settle in and build their confidence is something I find really fulfilling.”
“Like I mentioned above, Tax is never static. Legislation changes regularly, and keeping up to date is essential. I make time to stay on top of updates through discussions with colleagues, reading industry summaries and blogs, and keeping a close eye on developments in the news. It’s part of the challenge I enjoy, as there’s always something new to learn and share with clients that can impact their situation.”
“One of the biggest misconceptions about my role is that it’s all about filling in tax returns. While compliance is essential, my work requires a lot of analytical thinking and the ability to take a step back. It’s about planning effectively, spotting opportunities, and helping businesses make strategic choices that align with their objectives.”
“I’m very much a people person, and that comes through in the way I approach my role. Whether it’s being on client calls, attending meetings, or supporting graduates in their development, I thrive on collaboration and interaction. My ability to connect with people and explain technical concepts clearly is what allows me to add value.”
“I’m excited about continuing to develop my expertise as well as exploring new ways technology can streamline compliance processes for clients. The world of tax is always moving forward, and I want to keep building my knowledge so I can continue delivering technical expertise that is always tailored for real people.”
